In 1999, Peter and two friends, Dennis di Cicco and Mitch Sayere planned and executed a flight in Mitch's private aircraft over the ocean to intercept a total solar eclipse. The eclipse occured near sunrise and Peter snapped some quick shots of totality from the cockpit. Taken with a flash, this photo shows the interior of the cockpit and the eclipsed sun.

The corona surrounds the moon in front of the sun. The shadow can be seen on both sides of the eclipsed sun.
